THE SCORECARD

Crowd or Rare.
Make it count.

The same NBA question can reward a familiar answer or a deep cut. Choose the scoring style before you play.

The short version: A player must satisfy the prompt first. In Crowd, popular valid answers are stronger. In Rare, less common valid answers are stronger. An accepted answer becomes a one-, two- or three-point shot.

How points work

Each answer sits in a scoring band. The two strongest bands become a three-point shot, the middle band becomes two points, and the other accepted bands become one point. A pass or expired timer scores zero. There are ten questions, so 30 points is the maximum.

Crowd mode

Think about the first eligible name an NBA fan might say. Famous players are often useful here, but the question still controls who qualifies. Read any season, award or team restriction before committing to a name.

Rare mode

Start with a player you know fits, then look one step past the obvious: a less celebrated teammate, an earlier era or a specialist connected to the same category. Rarity alone does not rescue an incorrect answer. If you cannot make the connection confidently before the timer ends, a familiar valid answer is usually better than zero.

A practice decision

Suppose a prompt asks for an NBA award winner. Several players may qualify. In Crowd, you might choose the winner most fans immediately remember. In Rare, you might recall an older winner. This illustrates the decision; it does not predict how any named player will score. The game’s answer list determines the actual band.

Three ways to improve

  1. Check eligibility first. The wrong team or season makes even a clever name useless.
  2. Use the mode. Ask “who would others choose?” for Crowd, or “who else fits?” for Rare.
  3. Watch the timer. You have 30 seconds per prompt. Leave enough time to type and submit.
